Local Volunteers Encouraged to Participate in Largest National Day of Community Service, Opportunities for All to Get Involved

Jennings announced plans to take part in Make A Difference Day on October 28, the largest national day of community service. Through Make A Difference Day, volunteers will join hundreds of other organizations around the country that are engaging their community in service.  Jennings is seeking volunteers to let residents know that they are still thought about and are valuable members of our community.

Jennings’ Volunteer Coordinator Laura Resecker is seeking volunteers to visit residents at Jennings from 10:00a.m. – noon on October 28. Volunteers can have simple conversations, enjoy a game, play music or other engaging ways to visit. “I have the pleasure of working in the residents’ home,” she said. “I see how visitors brighten their day, and I encourage people to experience how a conversation can make a difference for someone.”

TEGNA and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, which has been celebrated for more than two decades annually on the fourth Saturday in October. This national day of community service connects people with opportunities to serve, increases the strength of communities and promotes civic engagement. “Make A Difference Day has become an enduring tradition that brings people together, across differences, to help solve community problems,” said Tracy Hoover, CEO of Points of Light. “With projects throughout the country, it’s a great opportunity to start volunteering or, if you already volunteer, it’s a great time to invite a friend to join you.”

Spirituality and You: Facing Change

Monday, October 23, 2017

in News

It comes at us constantly
sometimes in a whisper
like a falling leaf
sometimes like a river
roaring through a gorge.

It is all we know: change
all we are: ever-evolving
creatures of nature.
Next time you hear
the stubborn bray
of your donkey voice
resisting the horizon ahead
take a lesson from your Mother.

Watch how summer kneels down
when she hears the flutter of fall.
Notice how spring melts winter’s heart
with her tender burst of buds.

Spirituality and You: Consciousness

Examination of Consciousness
Did you say only kind words today?
Did you remember your thoughts become your life?
Did you say thank you as often as you were grateful?
Did you shine your light?
Did you laugh out loud?
Did you sing?
Did you hug anyone?
Did you love your body?
Did you see yourself reflected in anyone?
Were you thankful?
Did you say it?
