Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Jennings!
A Thanksgiving Prayer
God of all blessings, source of all life, giver of all grace:
We thank you for the gift of life:
for the breath that sustains life,
for the food of this earth that nurtures life,
for the life-giving love of family and friends.
We thank you for the mystery of creation:
for the beauty of the Earth that the eye can see,
for the unfolding universe that draws us beyond our imaginings.
We thank you for the communities to which we belong:
for families, for friends,
for neighbors and for companions at work.
We thank you for the strangers who welcome us into their lives and whom we invite to be part of ours.
We thank you for our brothers and sisters of all ages, all races, all nations and all faiths.
We thank you for the multitude of ways that you call us to steward the gifts of creation and to serve others in your name.
We thank you for this day, for the companionship we share and the bountiful goodness of the bread we break together.
God of all goodness, we pray in thanks for your presence among us as we gather together, and your promise to be with us now and always. AMEN.

It was a privilege to honor veterans in our annual Veterans Day celebration. We began the day with a flag folding ceremony (see our video) thanks to Staff Sergeant Daniel Hudson and Staff Sergeant Dwayne Soblosky. They proceeded to conduct the flag raising in our front yard. Garfield Heights City Schools students carried the flags of the service branches outside for the flag raising to commemorate all veterans. Amvets Post 80 Honor Guard joined us for the gun salute and played Taps for those veterans who lost their lives in service.
When we returned inside, we honored veterans with a special celebration and luncheon. The room was filled with salute and song as we began with the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the Star Spangled Banner. Life Enrichment Director Danielle Paluscsak welcomed and thanked veterans for their service. She also detailed our honorary POW/MIA table, also called the Fallen Comrade Table, in memory of the fallen. Students from Garfield Heights City Schools read their essays to thank and honor the veterans with whom they later ate lunch and learned their stories. Jennings’ Chief Mission Leader Sister Valerie Sweeney, SND, read the Presidential Proclamation that commemorates Veterans Day.
Staff members from Jennings, Jennings Hospice and Jennings Home Care had the privilege of personally thanking each veteran as his/her name was called. Staff members pinned each veteran with a flag lapel pin to thank them for their service. We also honored family members for their devotion and support of the veteran’s commitment.
Finally, Chef Michael Mills offered a prayer before lunch, an original that he wrote to recognize the veterans and their courage. Thanks to the culinary services team, we provided a delicious lunch and dessert.
Thank you all veterans who served or continue to serve our country! Happy Veterans Day!
