in Advent 2012

Isaiah is probably the best know of all of the prophets because of his prophecies of the coming Messiah.  When called by God, Isaiah denied his ability telling God that he was a man of unclean lips living among a people of unclean lips.  So God sent an angel with tongs holding burning coals to purify the lips of Isaiah, readying him to speak on the Lord’s behalf.

Lord, God, help me to be a person who speaks honestly and truly.  Let my words be the outpouring of a pure heart, for it is out of the fullness of the heart that the mouth speaks.  Make my words kind and comforting, never harsh and biting.  Teach me what simplicity of speech means in my dealings with others.
