in Advent 2012

Joseph had many nights when he was awakened from his dreams with an angel speaking to him.  Joseph was a man of silence, a man committed to God’s will – to charity, hard work and dedication to Mary.  Joseph was entrusted with protecting the holy family, providing for their needs and their safety.  Joseph was in the background, but he was the strength that Mary and Jesus leaned on.

Almighty God, give me the faith and generosity, the silent fortitude and commitment of Joseph.  Help me to be a person that others can depend on to do what is needed when it is needed.  Give me the strength to do your will, even when I do not understand what that means at the time.  Help me to trust that you will show me the way to be a person of service.
