Jennings Visits Washington, D.C.

Jennings President Allison Q. Salopeck, Board Member Darrel Cox and Medical Director James Campbell were part of a group who met with Senator Sherrod Brown in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, March 13, 2013. Senator Brown is sponsoring a bill addressing the use of observation days in lieu of being admission status at the hospital and the fact that the observation stays are preventing our American elders from using their much needed Medicare benefits for post hospital skilled rehab stays.

We also met with LeadingAge’s Vice President of Public Policy Marcia Greenfield and Cheryl Phillips,MD, Senior Vice President at LeadingAge to prepare for our meeting with Congressman David Joyce and Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Eric Cantor. They were both very supportive of this bill. They understood the issue well and asked us questions to understand it better. We ended our day stopping by Congressman Courtney’s office (Connecticut) to brief his staff on our meetings.
